If Erik Ainge has a choice he would still want to have another chance at football but his body insisted that it is time to move on.
Erik Ainge, the New York Jets backup quarterback, sadly told The Associated Press recently that he would be bidding farewell to his football career because of all the injuries he has, one in his right foot and the other one is in his throwing shoulder.
Ainge who is just 25 years old and already nearly a year clean of drugs and alcohol did not play entire last season. For many years, he fought addiction and all these times of sobriety, one thing remained in his mind and that is to play football again. It was his motivation, one thing that kept him going. But because of the two screws that were inserted in his foot during his surgery last January to repair a stress fracture that haunted him for years and years plus he also informed the people that he was also diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff, these are all reasons enough for him to finally do what he tried for so very long to avid, and that is to quit and end his football career.
For Coach Phillip Fulmer at the University of Tennessee, Erik Ainge was a star player. He was drafted by the New York Jets during the fifth round three years ago. Ainge has some amazing preseason plays for the Jets but unfortunately he was buried deep and came behind Brett Favre and Kellen Clemens. And then it was Mark Sanchez and Kellen Clemens in 2009. And Ainge has actually not thrown a pass in a regular season game.
Ainge has actually not filed his retirement with the Jets yet that is why the management of the team still can not comment or say anything about the whole thing. In fact, he is still listed on the Jets’ roster under the reserve-did not report list.
Some people are saying that Ainge’s retirement is a result of the Jets having five quarterbacks on their roster at present, namely Sanchez, Greg McElroy, Drew Willy, Kevin O’Connell, and Mark Brunell, but Ainge completely denied this rumor. Another issue that keeps on popping out is the notion that Ainge is still focus on sobriety that is why he can not continue playing, but he also denied this issue. He further explained that he has gone through a very thorough rehabilitation process and insisted that this is not the reason why he needs to say goodbye to football.
